Featured will be select New Hampshire and New England crafters, artists, jewelers, and service providers, including All Things Shaker, Good Gaud Designs, Knock on Wood Birdhouses, Nurabella Jewelry, and The Barefoot Bee. Many local gourmet food companies such as Simply Delish, St. Julien Macaroons, The Cozy Tea Cart, Laurel Hill Jams, and the Woodshed Roasting Company will also be present to introduce their delicious creations.

New Hampshire Open Doors

Coming up on Saturday and Sunday November 3rd and 4th, New Hampshire Open Doors gives everyone the opportunity to meet hundreds of crafters, artists, farmers, and other creative folk in their own workshops or studios.  For an “up close and personal” time with these inventive people, this can’t be beat!

What began 8 years ago as a way of letting New Hampshire residents know about the great crafters in their midst has grown into a celebration of everything created in New Hampshire – from beer to high-end paintings. Local farms, breweries, wineries, and bakeries join potters, jewelers, clothiers, quilters, photographers and painters for this event.  No matter where you live in the state, you will be able to meet dozens of your most creative neighbors during this two-day celebration.  Also included in the Open Doors event are retail stores like Wilderness Creations and Frye’s Measure Mill which specialize in handcrafted New Hampshire made products.

It’s a great way to start your holiday shopping.  The New Hampshire Open Doors website makes stopping and shopping very easy.  The website includes lists of the participants by name, category, and location, and even contains tours that take you to several crafters who live in adjacent areas, such as the Marlborough-Keene area, Wilton-Brookline-Mason, and the Dover-Rye region.  Further afield, tours are also listed for central and northern New Hampshire places like Meredith-Sanbornton, Canterbury, Hopkinton, and the Littleton-Bethlehem vicinity. Check out the website for the list of participants, detailed maps and directions, and the times each shop or studio will be open.

The Southern New Hampshire Expo

Mark your calendars for October 18th. The 2012 Southern New Hampshire Expo is an event you won’t want to miss!  Over 200 local businesses will be on hand to introduce themselves, show their products, and answer questions about their services.  More than 4,000 people came to the Hampshire Dome in Milford, NH to experience last year’s Expo, and it looks like this year’s fair will be bigger and better than ever.

The Expo is a great way to find out about the wide variety of services and products available in the area.  Big companies and small, old and new, they’ll be there! You are sure to discover businesses you didn’t know about – products you didn’t know were available – and services you didn’t think you could find. The scope of companies range from Antiques at Mayfair to Walmart, services like Amherst Recreation and Bridges to the Milford Rotary and Welcome Wagon.  Hampshire Hills will have a booth, as will Chappell, Scentsy, Staples, and hundreds of others.

Several eating establishments will also be present – offering free tastings. Sample the savory flavors of some of the area’s best restaurants, including Giorgio’s, the Mile Away, and the Rustic Leaf Bistro.  Casual dining restaurants like Chrysanthi’s, the Red Arrow Diner, and Foodie’s will also be well-represented.  In addition, many other quality food purveyors such as The Cozy Tea Cart, The Good Loaf, and A&E Coffee Roastery will be distributing samples of their flavorful creations.

The service companies that will be represented cover a wide field, from institutions like the Beaver Brook Association and Planet Aid to the Birth Cottage of Milford and Living at Home Senior Care.

The Expo will once again be hosting the student VEX Robotics Competition this year. Teams from six area high schools will be on hand to demonstrate their innovative robotic creations.  Come visit with some of the brightest engineers and scientists of tomorrow and see what they have designed.

I and some of my associates from Prudential Verani Realty will have a booth at the Expo.  Please stop by and say hello!

The Southern New Hampshire Expo is a program of the Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce. Expo hours will be 2 to 7:30PM Thursday October 18th at the Hampshire Dome on Emerson Road in Milford.  More information may be found on the Expo’s website.  For a floor plan on the Expo exhibit hall and list of vendors, click here.

Considering a move to Southern New Hampshire?  The Southern New Hampshire Expo is a great place to find out about what the area has to offer.  I would be happy to help you discover your new home.  Check out my website and facebook page and give me a call.  I’m always ready to assist you with your home buying needs.

The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair

There’s one summer fair that should definitely be on your “to do” list.  The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Annual Fair, now in its 79th year, is a great place to stop – and shop.  This year it will be held from August 4th through 12th at the Mount Sunapee Ski Resort in Newbury, 10AM to 5PM daily.  The League operates quality craft shops at various locations throughout the state; only artisans who have qualified for League membership may exhibit their works at the shops or at the fair.

The fair is a great opportunity to see offerings by over 350 New Hampshire artisans in one place: each item made by hand, unique, and inspiring.  Representative works from some of the best craftsmen in New England will be there, offering everything from greeting cards, pottery, and clothes, to quilts, stained glass, and furniture.  There are items in all price ranges.  It’s a great place to find talented artisans for that special “something” you’ve been looking for but haven’t found at the mall stores.  The crafters will be happy to explain their craft and will welcome your purchase at the fair or your commission.  (Most craftsmen welcome orders for items made to your specifications.)

In addition to the craft booths, there will be a number of other activities visitors can enjoy. There will be craft demonstrations, and adult, children’s, and teen workshops showing how craft pieces are developed from the germ of an idea to finished creation.  For a break from shopping, visitors can enjoy scheduled performances by some of New England’s finest musicians, storytellers, and theater groups.

The League of NH Craftsmen is a non-profit, craft education organization. There is a small fee to visit the fair. For more information about the fair or the League, visit the League’s website.  To purchase your admission tickets online, click here.
